About the role

The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is a 76-bed unit dedicated to the care of critically ill newborns and their families. The unit provides specialized medical and/or surgical care to infants from various geographical areas. The care is provided by a multidisciplinary team including neonatal nurses, neonatal nurse practitioners, lactation consultants, human milk technicians, physicians, occupational and physical therapists, speech therapists, respiratory care practitioners, social workers, pharmacists, dietitians, and internal case managers.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with physicians and other healthcare providers to implement care management plans.
  • Delegates patient care activities within a care management assignment.
  • Affirms progress of patients toward established nursing outcomes and communicates variances to the care team.
  • Assesses needs of patients and families for discharge planning and coordinates necessary resources.
  • Executes teaching plans, utilizing available resources and evaluating the effectiveness of teaching.
  • Communicates with interdisciplinary teams and acts as a resource/advocate for specific patients/families.
  • Participates in program development and professional development activities.
  • Applies current research findings in practice and supports community education efforts.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • A license to practice professional nursing in the State of Wisconsin.
  • NRP certification within 1 year of employment.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 1 year NICU RN experience required.
  • Associate's Degree in Nursing (ADN) required.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred.

Skills

  • Knowledge of neonatal, pediatric, and adolescent growth and development.
  • Experience with pediatric and/or medical surgery.
  • Ability to analyze complex patient conditions and develop comprehensive care plans.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to delegate patient care activities effectively.

Benefits

Includes an hourly night bonus after successful completion of orientation. Schedules include an every 3rd weekend rotation and a holiday rotation. Eligibility to participate in the bonus program on the weekend program after completing orientation. Weekend program staff also have a holiday rotation. Must commit to the hired schedule for at least 18 months after completing orientation. There is a 6+ year wait to get to a straight regular day schedule due to the size of the unit and team.

Pay

Hourly rate with additional bonuses for night shifts and weekend rotations.

Schedule

Part-time 12-hour night shift with every 3rd weekend and a holiday rotation. Openings for October and November 2026. Positions require 19-0730- hours per week.
