We provide primary care, specialty care, urgent care, emergency care, community health services, foster and adoption services, child and family counseling, child advocacy services, and family resource centers. Our reputation draws patients and families from around the country.

This part-time position is within our Dialysis Unit Care team, supporting pediatric patients requiring dialysis services.

Schedule

• Part-time, 0.8 FTE
• Regular schedule: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday from 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM
• On-call rotation begins approximately 6 months post-hire, occurring every 7 weeks
• During on-call weeks, the employee remains available for after-hours coverage while working their regular schedule

About the Dialysis Department

• Dialysis Staff:
  • 6 Dialysis Nurses: Provide outpatient, inpatient, and ICU dialysis services, as well as 24/7 on-call support for home and inpatient dialysis patients. Responsible for training and supporting home dialysis patients, including staffing a weekly home dialysis clinic.
  • 1 Dialysis Technician: Integral to outpatient unit operations, setting up machines, initiating/discontinuing treatments, and maintaining supplies.
  • 5 Nephrologists: Provide inpatient and outpatient coverage for patients on or needing dialysis.
• Multidisciplinary Ancillary Staff: Social work, nutrition, psychology, child life, transplant coordinators, and more provide ongoing support, education, and regulatory compliance for patients and families.
• Dialysis Unit Features:
  • One patient training room
  • State-of-the-art water treatment room with a double-sized Reverse Osmosis System for ultra-pure water
  • 6 patient treatment stations (4 chairs in an open bay, 2 private rooms)
  • Outpatient hemodialysis on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays (sometimes Saturdays)
  • Patient treatments average 3–4 hours each; first shift starts at 6:00 AM, ending around 5:00 PM
  • Tuesdays: Peritoneal Dialysis Clinic for home dialysis patients
  • Thursdays: Care planning for hemodialysis patients and assigned projects

Responsibilities

• Serve as a partner in the Dialysis Unit care management team, coordinating and managing pediatric patient care.
• Delegate patient care activities within a care management assignment.
• Perform essential nursing functions, including direct care for pediatric dialysis patients.
• Participate in the on-call rotation with other dialysis nursing staff.
• Nursing Process:
  • Apply principles of growth and development in patient assessments.
  • Communicate in an age-appropriate manner for children and families.
  • Identify and act on physical, psychosocial, and cognitive cues.
  • Make independent nursing decisions and integrate medical plans of care.
• Care Management:
  • Collaborate with physicians and care teams to implement care plans.
  • Assess patient progress toward nursing outcomes, record variances, and communicate with the care team.
  • Support regulatory preparedness for CMS compliance and maintain readiness for unannounced surveys.
• Teaching:
  • Apply learning principles for children and adults.
  • Execute and evaluate teaching plans, utilizing available resources.
  • Participate in home visits for patients training for or performing home dialysis to assess environments and provide re-training as needed.
• Administer hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis.
• Conduct home visits for new peritoneal patients or those experiencing frequent infections or recent moves (minimum of 2 nurses per visit).
• Demonstrate knowledge and skills to provide age-appropriate care across the lifespan, interpreting data to meet patient needs.
• Participate in program development and needs assessments as required.

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing (or equivalent academic/professional experience).
• Active license to practice professional nursing in the State of Wisconsin (proof required on or before the first day of employment).
• Current CPR certification – Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers through American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
• Dialysis experience in hemodialysis (HD) and peritoneal dialysis (PD) preferred.
• Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience.

Accepted certifications/licenses include:

• BLS-Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (American Heart Association/American Red Cross/National Safety Council)
• Registered Nurse (RN) license from Wisconsin, Arizona (AZ Compact), North Dakota (ND Compact), Ohio (OH Compact), or Tennessee (TN Compact)
