Pediatric Nurse Extern (PNE) - Pediatric Intensive Care Unit-1

Valley Children’s Hospital Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) is a 42-bed, Level-2 trauma center specializing in high-acuity pediatric care. The unit serves a diverse patient population: 30% cardiac (congenital heart defects), 30% neuroscience (neurological disorders/injuries), and 40% acutely ill with varied disorders. The PICU is staffed by a collaborative team of nurses, providers, and support staff focused on delivering excellent outcomes for critically ill children.

About the role

Performs nursing activities documented as learned in the nursing program. May assist with medication administration after completing pediatric theory and clinical coursework, and passing the Valley Children’s medication examination.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or G.E.D. (required)
• Current enrollment with completion of at least two semesters (or equivalent) in an accredited RN Program (required)
• BLS – Basic Life Support (AHA) certification within 30 days of hire or transfer (required)

Skills and abilities

• Advancement to PNE II requires completion of pediatric theory and clinical coursework, plus successful completion of the Children’s Hospital medication examination.
• Ability to perform essential duties satisfactorily; reasonable accommodations available for individuals with disabilities.

Pay

$23.00 – $36.00 per hour
