About the role
GI Associates is seeking a Pediatric Medical Assistant to join their growing independent gastroenterology practice in southeast Wisconsin. The ideal candidate will contribute to a harmonious work environment by providing compassionate, hands-on patient care.
Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate patient centered care that meets individual needs with respect to safety and clear communication.
- Rooms pediatric patients and obtains accurate intake information, including vital signs, medical history updates, medication reconciliation, and chief complaints.
- Demonstrates understanding of pediatric gastroenterology anatomy, physiology, disease processes, diagnostic procedures, and treatment plans.
- Captures and documents demographic, clinical, insurance, and billing information necessary for patient care and practice operations.
- Maintains accurate, timely, and complete documentation within the electronic medical record (EMR).
- Communicates provider instructions, test results, and follow-up recommendations to patients and families as directed by the provider.
- Assists with obtaining and documenting demographic, clinical, insurance, and billing information necessary for patient care and practice operations.
- Supports physician and provider schedules by facilitating patient flow and assisting with schedule adjustments as directed.
- Supports endoscopy and procedural workflow through preparation, documentation assistance, and coordination of follow-up appointments.
- Maintains a clean, organized, and safe clinical environment in accordance with infection control standards and organizational policies.
- Travels to clinic locations as needed.
- Maintains patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
- Works collaboratively with physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, administrative staff, and other healthcare team members to optimize patient care.
- Provides excellent customer service and support to patients, families, and colleagues.
- Contributes to a positive work environment by treating all patients, families, and coworkers with respect, professionalism, and dignity.
Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program or equivalent clinical experience
- Current Medical Assistant certification preferred (CMA, RMA, NCMA, CCMA, or equivalent)
- Patient-care first approach with strong attention to detail
- Ability to problem-solve and communicate effectively with pediatric patients, family members, physicians, coworkers, and external healthcare partners
- BLS certification – training available once hired
- Proficiency in electronic medical record (EMR) systems and Microsoft Office software applications
- Previous gastroenterology experience preferred
- Previous Pediatric experience preferred
- Willingness and ability to travel to other GI Associates locations as needed to support operational needs
- Able to prioritize tasks, manage multiple responsibilities, and work in a fast-paced clinical environment
- Demonstrate commitment to patient-centered care and teamwork
Physical & Mental Demands
- Able to sit, stand, walk, kneel, bend, reach and stoop throughout entire shift to accomplish tasks
- Able to push, pull, lift and/or move up to 25 lbs. frequently and up to 50 lbs. occasionally
- Frequent use of a computer for typing and EMR documentation; requires accurate and efficient data entry abilities
- Frequent use of the telephone to contact patients for appointment scheduling, follow-up care, test results, and other clinical communications
