Description
This teaching hospital provides invaluable training in support of graduate medical education, specialties, and critically important trauma skills. There is no more rewarding place to work than providing healthcare to the children of our military service men and women and of our community.
Duties
- Observes, assesses, and records symptoms, reactions, and progress;
- Assists physicians during treatments and examinations;
- Administers medication and prescribed treatments;
- Completes admissions and discharges;
- Promote convalescence and rehabilitation;
- Makes observations and assessments of patients' conditions for potential or life-threatening crises;
- Initiates life-saving measures in the absence of a physician;
- Operates emergency equipment such as defibrillator, EKG machine, cardiac monitor, and others;
- Documents all patient care given and the progress of the patient utilizing the SAMMC/WHASC documentation standards in the patients' medical record.
Requirements
- MUST have 1 year or more of full time LVN Licensed Vocational Nurse experience in an Inpatient Pediatric Unit within the past 3 years in an actual INPATIENT PEDIATRIC UNIT. This does NOT include Home Health or Rehab experience. NO EXCEPTIONS!
- Must be able to pass a background check for government clearance.
- Must be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing by the National League of Nursing.
- Valid Licensed Vocational Nurse LVN/LPN Nursing license from any US Jurisdiction.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
- PALS Certification.
- Knowledge of pediatric medication dosages and willingness to train as support personnel in the provision of chemotherapy.
- Achieve at least an 80% on the pediatric-specific pharmacology exam.
- Ability to pass the BAMC Annual Telemetry Test.
