Pediatric Intensivist, Per Diem

About the role

Nemours Children’s Hospital in Orlando, Florida is seeking a per diem or casual Pediatric Intensivist to join our dynamic and innovative team. This is primarily a clinical position focused on the diagnosis, treatment, and clinical management of pediatric critical care patients in a multidisciplinary environment that includes physicians, nurses, advanced practice providers, pharmacists, respiratory therapists, dieticians, and social workers.

The role offers exposure to a variety of high-acuity pediatric critical care patients and includes teaching and supervision of medical students and residents. Opportunities to participate in Quality Improvement, research, and publishing are also available.

Our integrated practice model and multidisciplinary approach connects you with sub-specialists at other Nemours facilities in Pensacola, FL, Jacksonville, FL, and Wilmington, Delaware. The division affiliates with the University of Central Florida College of Medicine and offers opportunities in both research and teaching of students and Pediatric Residents. We have a multi-site Disorders of Sexual Differentiation (DSD) program in development at NCH, Florida, in coordination with Nemours Children’s Health in Jacksonville, Pensacola, and Wilmington, Delaware. Outreach clinics exist in Lakeland, Winter Garden, and Melbourne.

Responsibilities

• Applies knowledge of growth and development in customer interactions and treatment.
• Actively self-educates (e.g., reading journals, earning CME credits, attending NCH conferences).
• Coordinates and/or develops and delivers monthly in-services to meet staff and resident development needs.
• Directly provides high-level clinical services to patients, including but not limited to:
  • Performing and recording history and physical examinations.
  • Recording and interpreting pertinent patient data.
  • Developing and documenting a treatment plan.
  • Writing routine orders for appropriate laboratory studies, x-rays, and consultations.
  • Performing patient/parent teaching.
  • Assisting with patient follow-up.
  • Performing appropriate screenings.
  • Administering medications as required.
  • Ordering and/or performing therapeutic and diagnostic procedures as indicated by patient findings.
• Makes suggestions to the Department Chief and/or attending staff that may improve the department.
• Participates in Quality Improvement, research, and publishing.
• Participates in teaching and serves as a role model to medical students and residents.
• Participates in the call schedule as assigned.

Requirements

• Medical Degree (MD or DO) from an accredited medical school or foreign equivalent.
• Board certified or board eligible in pediatrics and critical care medicine.
• Valid state medical license and DEA.
