Pediatric Echocardiographer - Part Time
About the role
The Pediatric Echocardiographer's primary responsibility is performing cardiac ultrasound procedures on the pediatric population, secondary responsibility will be performing cardiac ultrasound procedures on the adult population. He/she also assists a trained, credentialed cardiologist attending during stress echocardiogram and TEE procedures when necessary. Additionally, the position is responsible for complete knowledge of cardiac anatomy, physiology and pathophysiology.
Responsibilities
- Performs pediatric and adult echocardiograms including 2-D M-Mode, color flow imaging and doppler studies.
- Performs Fetal Echocardiograms
- Performs Congenital Echocardiograms
- Obtains patient history and performs procedures as ordered.
- Performs safe patient transfers or repositioning before, during, and after testing.
- Notifies physicians in cases of acute or life threatening abnormalities.
- Obtains digital acquisition and storage of echo study in the current CPACS system for physician interpretation.
- Transports equipment to the patient's room for bedside studies.
- Cleans and maintains equipment; reports breakdowns and supply needs to echo supervisor or department manager.
- Completes and processes billing charge requisition, log books, worksheets and reports.
- Cleans and prepares room for the next patient.
- Keeps exam rooms adequately stocked
- Lifts a minimum of 50 lbs., pushes and pulls a minimum of 500 lbs. and stands a minimum of 4 hours a day.
- Identifies the needs of the patient population served and modifies and delivers care that is specific to those needs (i.e., age, culture, language, hearing and/or visually impaired, etc.). This process includes communicating with the patient, parent, and/or primary caregiver(s) at their level (developmental/age, educational, literacy, etc.).
- Adheres to the IAC standards
- Adheres to ASE standards and those identified in the Medical Center's Organizational Competencies.
- Consistently adheres to HMH code of conduct/standards of behaviors.
- Participates in performance initiatives and monitoring. Prepares studies and patient data for QA and echo conference.
- Reports accidents promptly and corrects minor safety hazards.
- Assists in the training and development of other team members.
- Performs other tasks as assigned.
Qualifications
- Graduate of a certified cardiovascular technology school and/or graduate of an accredited ultrasonography program with a specialty in cardiac sonography.
- Knowledge of cardiac anatomy, physiology and pathophysiology.
- Knowledge of anatomy, physiology and pathophysiology of congenital heart defects both pre and post-surgery.
- Knowledge of fetal anatomy, physiology and circulation.
- Must document at least 15 hours of echocardiography related continuing education over a period of three (3) years. All hours must be relevant to echocardiography.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficient computer skills that include but are not limited to Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite platforms.
Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred
- One-year clinical echocardiography experience preferred.
- One year of pediatric and/or fetal echocardiography experience.
- Certified in pediatric echocardiography.
Licenses and Certifications Required
- Registered Cardiac Sonographer Certification or Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer Certification or ARDMS Certification.
- BLS AHA Basic Health Care Life Support HCP Certification.
Compensation
Minimum rate of $38.27 Hourly
