About the role
Experienced subject matter expert level Echocardiographer. Under supervision of a physician, performs Echocardiograms on Pediatric patients. Performs routine, and emergent complex congenital echocardiograms as requested by physician and in accordance with standard practices. Procedures include transthoracic and transesophageal echocardiograms for the neonatal, pediatric, and adult congenital populations. Provide training and oversight to Pediatric Echocardiographers in learning roles.
Responsibilities
- Operates equipment necessary to perform all required procedures and to obtain optimal diagnostic recordings; utilize ancillary devices such as selected transducers, audio- and video- recorders, and computer systems.
- Maintains equipment in working order.
- Uses independent judgment and systematic problem-solving methods to produce high quality diagnostic information.
- Provide training and oversight to Pediatric Echocardiographers in learning roles.
- Acquires and analyzes data obtained using ultrasound and related diagnostic technologies.
- Provides a summary of findings to the physician to aid in patient diagnosis and management.
- Completes all documentation. Input all preliminary reports and required measurements into PACS.
- Utilize Epic to input appropriate billing information.
- Educates patient and family/caregiver regarding echocardiography exam.
- Educates patient/family to explain the procedure and expectations.
- May help patient with gowning, and help maneuver patient into appropriate position for exam.
- Apply EKG stickers for monitoring during the exam.
- Obtain patient identifiers at start of visit.
- Review patient's medical record for completion, obtain history of symptoms and necessary information for performance of diagnostic procedures.
- Prepares patient records for review and interpretation by physician, including the selection, recording, cross-reference of significant or representative studies.
- Provides accurate documentation of patient care provided on appropriate forms, according to Connecticut Children’s and department protocols.
- Maintain a clean environment for patients and staff.
- Prepares patient exam area. Restocks supplies as needed.
- Input preliminary reports and measurements for all outside studies.
- Burn discs and mail to outside institutions as requested.
- Fax finalized Echo reads to appropriate organizations.
- Track billing sheets for completion by Reading Providers for outside studies.
- May provide Echocardiograms at outside locations such as healthcare systems outside of Connecticut Children’s as assigned.
- May transport patients as necessary.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Education and/or Experience Required: High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent. Completion of an accredited Cardiac Ultrasound program that includes clinical and didactic education in pediatric echocardiography. Minimum 2 years' experience as a Pediatric Echocardiographer required.
- Licenses and/or Certifications: Registered with American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS), or Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) in Echocardiography (CCI) RDCS (AE) or RCS. Registered with American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS), or Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) in Pediatric Echocardiography RDCS(PE) or RCCS. Current Basic Life Support certification (BLS) in accordance with American Heart Association Standards.
