Essential Functions

  • Provides comprehensive dental care to pediatric patients, including infants, children, adolescents, and patients with special healthcare needs.
  • Utilizes behavior management techniques and communication appropriate for pediatric populations with varying levels of dental anxiety or medical/developmental complexity to ensure cooperation and safety in order to provide effective and compassionate care.
  • Affords assessments and manages patients requiring sedation and/or coordinates referrals for advanced behavior guidance or anesthesia when appropriate.
  • Delivers preventive and restorative services aligned with pediatric clinical guidelines and risk-based care models by prioritizing needs and providing risk-based treatment plans.
  • Educates patients and staff on oral health-related conditions and the general promotion of oral disease prevention.
  • Collaborates closely with pediatric medical providers to support integrated care, including screenings, referrals, and shared care planning.
  • Supports caregiver education on oral health, disease prevention, and the oral-systemic health connection in children.
  • Collaborates with dental team to ensure appropriate dental or oral treatment by referring individuals for specialty consultation or treatment in conformance with approved clinical privileges and all clinical procedures and guidelines.
  • Ensures proper utilization of dental assistants and support staff to ensure efficient and adequate patient flow while delivering quality dental care to all patients.
  • Records patient-dentist encounters as they occur in the patients dental record in accordance with the organizational standard and the standard of care.
  • Affords adequate supervision and training to the dental hygienist, dental students, and dental assistant staff.
  • Mets productivity and quality metrics as required per grant program guidelines.
  • Collaborates with all HHC clinical staff and departments to ensure holistic and integrative care approach.
  • Provides dental education and technical assistance to the community as requested.
  • Travels when necessary to meet operational needs.
