About the role

The APP will function independently in the inpatient hospital, collaborating with a supervising physician and other members of a multidisciplinary team for cardiac surgical and non-surgical patients in the CVICU. These patients include but are not limited to complex neonatal repairs, VAD, ECMO, and transplant patients.

Responsibilities

  • Functions independently to perform age-appropriate, disease-specific history and physical examination of complex acute, critical, and chronic advanced heart failure patients.
  • Rounds daily with interdisciplinary team.
  • Manages care and treatment plan as the front-line provider for patients.
  • Orders and interprets diagnostic and therapeutic tests, including laboratory and radiologic.
  • Prescribes appropriate pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatment modalities.
  • Maintains documentation of all patient encounters, records observations, interventions, and actions in a medically appropriate manner in the patient’s electronic medical record.
  • Collaborates with members of the multidisciplinary team including, but not limited to: physicians, nurses, medical assistants, social workers, pharmacists, dieticians.
  • Performs chest tube removals, pacer wire removals, and pediatric ICU procedures including chest tube insertion, central and arterial line access, and intubations.
  • Attends, participates, and contributes to group/practice meetings, quality improvement, and policy and procedure development efforts when requested.

Requirements

  • Must be approved to practice as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant in the state of North and South Carolina.
  • Eligible for prescriptive authority application through the Board of Nursing or Medical Board in North and South Carolina.
  • Must have or be eligible for a DEA license.
  • BLS for Healthcare Provider from AHA required with expiration date greater than 90 days from date of beginning practice.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrates appropriate critical thinking, interpersonal skills, and the ability to prioritize and concentrate.
  • 2+ years of experience as an APP in a relevant field preferred.

Skills

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Strong clinical decision-making abilities.
  • Experience with pediatric and neonatal care.
  • Knowledge of advanced heart failure management.

Pay

$54.90 - $82.35

Schedule

Rotating shifts, days - 11.5 hours dayshift and 14.5 hour night shift; weekends/holidays required.
