About the role
The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is a 76-bed unit dedicated to the individualized care of critically ill newborns and their families. The unit serves a diverse geographical area for specialized medical and/or surgical needs. The care provided includes a unique blend of interdisciplinary caregivers such as neonatal nurses, neonatal nurse practitioners, lactation consultants, human milk technicians, physicians, occupational and physical therapists, speech therapists, respiratory care practitioners, social workers, pharmacists, dietitians, and internal case managers.
Responsibilities
- Partner with the care management team to coordinate and manage patient care.
- Provide coordination and management of patient care within a continuum of care.
- Delegating patient activities as appropriate within a care management assignment.
Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing in order to meet the recommended entry level for a professional nurse (or equivalent academic and/or professional experience).
- A license to practice professional nursing in the State of Wisconsin.
- NRP certification within 1 year of employment.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of the principles of neonatal, pediatric, and adolescent growth and development and child/family responses to fear, illness, injury, and hospitalization.
- Analytical skills necessary to assess complex patient conditions effectively and to develop comprehensive plans of care.
- Synthesizes multiple sources of information to assist in the resolution of human responses to complex problems.
- Interpersonal and communication skills sufficient to interact effectively with interdisciplinary health team members and consumers.
- The ability to represent the organization and serve consumers in a professional manner and promote a positive image of the organization and its services.
- Mental and sensory abilities to read, process, and interpret clinical data.
- The ability to rotate shifts and/or work flexible hours to meet patient care needs.
- The ability to communicate with families and work with families under stress.
- The ability to coordinate and deliver complex care utilizing a multidisciplinary approach.
- The ability to operate, trouble-shoot, and interpret a wide variety of patient care equipment.
Skills
- Ability to delegate patient care activities effectively to unlicensed staff as appropriate and where indicated.

Pay
- Salary range based on qualifications and experience.
Schedule
- Day/Night rotating schedule (6 weeks on each shift): 07:00-19:30 and 19:00-07:30.
- Continuous 12-hour night shift with an additional $4 per hour night shift bonus after successfully completing orientation.
- Weekend Program available on days or nights (EVERY Friday, Saturday, Sunday on Days OR EVERY Saturday/Sunday and one shift during the week for nights).
Qualifications
- Must be willing to commit to the hired schedule for at least 18 months after completing orientation.
- Must be willing to work flexible hours to meet patient care needs.
- Must be willing to work weekends and holidays as part of the rotation.
