About the Role

The Pediatric APRN or PA-C, under the supervision of the Physician, acts as the collaborative practitioner and is responsible for providing care to pediatric patients in the Pediatric Cardiovascular ICU setting.

  • Performs admissions, consultations, and follow-up care, including intubation, ventilator management, and other required procedures.
  • Manages medical and post-operative ICU patients with conditions such as Congenital Heart Surgery, Neurosurgery, Oncology, Epilepsy, Complex Medical, and Liver Transplant.
  • Orders and interprets diagnostic tests (e.g., routine laboratory, X-ray).
  • Educates patients and families on treatment plans, surgical procedures, and pre- and post-operative care.
  • Monitors patient treatment courses and makes referrals to physicians or specialists as needed.
  • Collaborates with physicians and staff to ensure consistent patient care and support.

Candidate must successfully pass a third-party background check and pre-employment drug screen.

Schedule

  • Flexible schedule with 12-hour shifts, including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Day shifts: 6:30 AM to 6:30 PM; Night shifts: 6:30 PM to 6:30 AM.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Nursing or Physician Assistant studies.
  • Master of Science in Nursing in Pediatric Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (preferred).
  • 1-3 years of experience as a Pediatric APRN or PA-C in an ICU, acute care, or ER setting.
  • Cardiac ICU experience as an APRN or PA-C (highly preferred).
  • Experience with ECMO (highly preferred).
  • Ability to perform procedures such as lines and intubations (highly preferred).

Qualifications

  • Current, valid Florida APRN license (or eligibility to obtain FL licensure).
  • Certification by Pediatric Nursing Certification Board (PNCB) (highly preferred).
  • Pediatric Nurse Practitioner with Acute Care Certification (highly preferred).
  • BLS, ACLS, PALS, and NRP certification.

About the Team

  • Enthusiastic team player in a group consisting of 5 PCICU physicians and 4 other APPs.
  • The team sees over 200 heart cases annually.
