About the Role
The Division of Cardiology in the Department of Pediatrics at Stanford University School of Medicine / Stanford Medicine Children’s Health is recruiting a Pediatric Cardiac Intensivist in the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) at Lucile Packard Children's Hospital Stanford (LPCHS). The successful candidate will be appointed as a Clinical Assistant Professor, Clinical Associate Professor, or Clinical Professor in the Clinician Educator line. The major criterion for appointment is excellence in the overall mix of clinical care, teaching, administrative, and/or scholarship appropriate to the programmatic need the individual is expected to fulfill. Quality and performance improvement leadership opportunities may be available for qualified candidates.
Responsibilities
- Serve as one of 21 attending cardiac intensivists in the CVICU.
- Provide cardiac consultation in the Neonatal and Pediatric Intensive Care Units at LPCHS.
- Participate in house staff and fellow education.
- Engage in clinical, translational, or quality/performance improvement research.
Requirements
- Board certified/eligible in Pediatric Cardiology, Pediatric Critical Care Medicine, or Pediatric Anesthesia.
- Completed advanced training in pediatric cardiovascular intensive care, either via dual fellowships in Pediatric Cardiology and Pediatric Critical Care Medicine or completion of a senior fellowship in cardiovascular intensive care.
About the Department
The Department of Pediatrics at Stanford University School of Medicine is committed to advancing the health of infants, children, and adolescents through innovative medical care, research, education, training, and advocacy. With over 400 pediatricians and pediatric subspecialists, the department is one of the largest in the Stanford University School of Medicine and is ranked among the top in the nation by U.S. News & World Report. The department offers broad-based training in general pediatrics, critical care, and pediatric subspecialties within a variety of ambulatory, inpatient, and community settings.
The Children’s Heart Center at LPCHS is ranked among the nation’s top pediatric cardiac programs and includes over 70 pediatric cardiologists and cardiovascular scientists. The CVICU is a state-of-the-art, 36-bed dedicated unit that provides all forms of cardiovascular intensive care for children with congenital and acquired cardiovascular diseases, as well as a growing population of adults with congenital heart disease. The unit currently operates with 33 beds and plans to expand to full capacity in the near future.
- Approximately 800 patients admitted to the CVICU per year, with 60% of admissions for post-operative care.
- Patients range in age from premature neonates to adults, with high complexity and acuity.
- Full range of clinical services available, including mechanical circulatory support (e.g., Berlin Heart, HeartMate III, Impella) and ECMO.
- Active cardiac transplantation program (approximately 25+ pediatric heart transplants per year).
Support systems and mentorship are available for incoming junior faculty, including a focus group for junior women in cardiology. Extensive opportunities exist for research collaborations with investigators at the School of Medicine and other departments throughout Stanford University.

Pay
The expected base pay range for this position is:
- Clinical Assistant Professor: $310,000–$342,000
- Clinical Associate Professor: $368,000–$399,000
- Clinical Professor: $442,000–$487,000
This pay range reflects base pay, which is based on faculty rank and years in rank. It does not include all components of the School of Medicine’s faculty compensation program or pay from participation in departmental incentive compensation programs.
