About the role

Syft is looking for a skilled Backend Engineer to join our growing engineering team. You'll be responsible for building and maintaining the core systems that power our platform, working closely with product and frontend teams to deliver robust, scalable solutions.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain high-performance backend services and APIs
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define and ship new features
• Optimize applications for maximum speed and scalability
• Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code
• Participate in code reviews and contribute to team best practices
• Troubleshoot and debug production issues across the stack

Requirements

• 5+ years of professional backend engineering experience
• Strong proficiency in Python or Go
• Experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL preferred) and query optimization
• Familiarity with cloud infrastructure (AWS or GCP)
• Understanding of distributed systems and microservices architecture
• Experience with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes)

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience
• Experience building RESTful APIs and working with third-party integrations
• Familiarity with event-driven architectures and message queues (RabbitMQ, Kafka)
• Strong communication skills and ability to work in a remote-first team

Skills

• Version control with Git and collaborative workflows
• Testing frameworks and methodologies (unit, integration, end-to-end)
• Monitoring and observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog)
• CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure as code (Terraform)

Pay

• $160,000 – $190,000 per year, depending on experience and location

Schedule

• Full-time, remote position with core collaboration hours 9am–1pm PT
