Job Description and Duties
The Department of Developmental Services (Department) is recruiting for a Peace Officer II (PO II) position within the Protective Services Branch (PSB) at Canyon Springs Community Facility (CSCF).
As a sworn peace officer under the authority of the California Penal Code Section 830.38, the PO II performs a range of duties expected of a first-line supervisor; including but not limited to: detecting or verifying suspected multiple violations of laws, rules, regulations and facility policies, enforcing and maintaining law and order at a DC/CF; plans, organizes, and directs the overall security policies and programs necessary for the protection of persons and property. PO II’s supervise PO I response to calls for service, alarms, emergent situations, investigations, and reports. The PO II is responsible for overseeing the activities of the PO Is, who are responsible for the daily tasks associated with the facility operation.
The PO II is responsible for staffing and ensuring that training requirements are met in accordance with Department mandates and the Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST). The PO II prepares written investigative reports, reviews all written PO I investigative reports, maintains record control systems, identifies personnel issues and equipment needs, establishes office protocols as required, and reports all serious or unusual situations. Perform program or policy development and interpretation duties. The PO II may perform other duties as required by their supervisor.
The Department now offers an entrance salary rate of $6,723 for the Peace Officer II classification.
Effective July 1, 2025, State employees are subject to a salary reduction of two percent in exchange for 3.5 hours per month of the Personal Leave.
Working Conditions
Pursuant to California Government Code requirements, candidates must be residents of the State of California at the time of appointment.
This position requires lawful authorization to work in the United States. The Department does not sponsor employment visas for this position.

Special Requirements
The Protective Services Branch (PSB) is a Law Enforcement Agency. After the background check clears, the applicant will be appointed to the position. This background check includes interviews of employment and personal references; FBI, California DOJ fingerprint clearances, and DMV clearance(s). The selected applicant must complete a notarized waiver for access to their personal records.
Completion of the Peace Officers Standards and Training (POST) Basic Academy is required (Please attach certificate to application). And current California driver’s license is required. This is a sworn Peace Officer position pursuant to California Penal Code section 830.38. Successful candidates will undergo a complete background investigation, in accordance with the Commission on POST requirements. All appointments are subject to pre-employment physical and fingerprint clearance.
