About the role
Join the Office of Protective Services (OPS) at the Department of Developmental Services (Department) as a Police Officer at Porterville Developmental Center in Porterville, CA. The Department is seeking multiple Police Officers to provide specialized law enforcement services to residents, co-workers, visitors, and state property.
Responsibilities
- Ensure safe facility operations
- Patrol grounds and crime prevention
- Respond to incidents as a first responder
- Conduct custody duties and investigations
- Assist with the control and transport of clients under security
Requirements
- Valid California Driver’s License
- Certificate of completion from a POST-certified police academy
- Successfully passed a drug screening, medical exam, thorough background investigation, and psychological exam
Qualifications
- Knowledge of law enforcement Code of Ethics and professional conduct
- Ability to interview and interact with individuals with disabilities
- Experience working with individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities

Pay
The starting salary for the Peace Officer I classification is $6,462.00. Effective July 1, 2025, State employees are subject to a salary reduction of two percent in exchange for 3.5 hours per month of Personal Leave.
Schedule
This position requires a combination of full-time and part-time schedules, with the option to work up to 1500 hours per year.
