Peace Officer
About the role
Police Officer in this position will carry out University and departmental rules, regulations, and procedures and see that the laws of Texas are upheld in an efficient, effective and professional demeanor as a representative of the department. A police officer must lead by example knowing first impressions are the key to the success of the department. Individual must have a good working knowledge of all directives including university policies.
Responsibilities
- Conducts investigations on all criminal and non-criminal cases that occur on campus.
- Patrols the campus in a University vehicle, bicycle or on foot.
- Provides service, information and directions to students, employees and visitors.
- Insures University property and facilities are secure.
- Preserves the peace by all lawful means while ensuring the dignity and rights of individuals are preserved at all times.
- Enforces traffic laws, making violator contacts, placing subjects in custody or issuing warnings or citation, enforcing Federal, State and Local laws.
- Prepares reports on all activities, filing them with the immediate supervisor.
- Cooperates & collaborates with other employees in the spirit of teamwork and collegiality.
- Complies with all of Trinity University policies & guidelines.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Must be TCOLE certified before the first day of employment.
- Must pass a physical examination to include drug screening and psychological profile.
- A thorough background investigation will be conducted, and applicant must have no felony convictions.
- Must possess a valid Texas Driver’s License and have a good driving history; applicant may not have more than two moving violations in a three-year period.
Qualifications
- Required: High School graduate or its equivalent.
- Preferred: A Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice or related field.
- Required: Currently certified as a Texas Peace Officer.
- Preferred: Two years of experience in the security or criminal justice field.

- The ability to interpret and implement numerous policies, procedures, and laws.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions
Must have good physical stamina to handle emergency situations, including:
- Walking / Running
- Jumping
- Climbing Stairs
- Standing for long periods of time
- Sitting for long periods of time
- Lifting objects of 50 lbs or more
- Bike Riding
- Driving
- Exposed to inclement weather
Requires working rotating shifts, holidays and overtime. Some aspects of this position may be hazardous.
Compensation
Starting pay is $28.85 per hour, with a compensation range of $23.97-$29.96 per hour. Starting salaries are based on factors including internal equity, relevant experience, and education.
