PE Teacher/Athletic Director- Mount Sacred Heart Catholic School

About the role

The Athletic Director and PE Teacher positions at the Catholic school are integral to the school's mission. The Athletic Director assists the administration in developing an athletic program promoting student health, athletic skill, and safety, while the PE Teacher guides, inspires, and educates students in a Christ-centered environment.

Responsibilities

• Supports and upholds the philosophy of Catholic education and the mission of the school
• Acts as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church
• Safeguards confidentiality regarding school matters
• Plans, organizes, and implements a comprehensive athletic program for students
• Maintains safety and well-being of student athletes
• Maintains, updates, and distributes athlete and coach handbooks annually
• Implements parent information and coach training sessions
• Ensures all athletes have completed necessary physicals, release forms, and registration
• Maintains compliance with league regulations and attends required meetings
• Maintains athletic inventory and coordinates new equipment and uniform orders
• Maintains the school’s athletic calendar in coordination with the master school calendar
• Attends and supervises all on-campus athletic competitions and off-campus events
• Supervises, hires, and evaluates all coaches formally and informally
• Maintains accurate records according to school and Archdiocesan policy
• Communicates efficiently regarding registration, team assignments, schedules, and participation requirements
• Communicates with administration/faculty regarding need for early dismissals, field, and gym use
• Maintains professional conduct, demeanor, and work habits
• Manages high to moderate levels of stress
• Protects confidentiality of any information or material obtained in the service with the organization
• Adheres to safety training and protocols on a daily basis
• Speaks with league officials about subjects such as postseason play
• Coordinates officials and umpires at games and budgets for their pay
• Fills reports on the status of each team and its successes and shortcomings
• Mediates any disputes between athletes and coaches or between coaches
• Works some nights and weekends

Requirements

• Five years coaching experience
• Administering, organizing, and financial skills in addition to a thorough knowledge of athletic policy and procedure
• Detail oriented, organized, self-motivated, works well independently and on a team
• Current CPR certification and First Aid training
• Teaching or coaching-related certification preferred
• Good written and verbal skills
• Good critical thinking and problem-solving skills
• Reliable transportation and valid driver license
• Valid vehicle insurance
• Passes archdiocesan Safe Environment Requirements and background screening
• Extensive knowledge of AIAL/TAPS rules and regulations

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in related field
• 12 credit hours in education courses or a valid, appropriate state certificate
• Demonstrated competency in the subject assigned area(s)
• Technology proficiency in the areas of word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and internet use for educational purposes and multimedia presentations
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to use personal computer and software to develop spreadsheets and databases
• Teaching or coaching-related certification preferred
• Passes archdiocesan Safe Environment Requirements and background screening
• Extensive knowledge of AIAL/TAPS rules and regulations
