About the Role
The Patient Care Tech (PCT) Float works across various nursing units within Children's and Women's areas of Erlanger Health System, based on staffing needs. Assignments may vary daily. The role involves direct and indirect patient care under the direction of a licensed nurse.
Responsibilities
- Move and transport patients
- Measure intake and output
- Feed babies
- Obtain height and weight
- Monitor vital signs
- Administer baths and personal care
- Perform point-of-care testing
- Operate necessary equipment for patient care
- Provide age-appropriate care to patients
- Recognize and report signs and symptoms requiring further evaluation by a licensed nurse
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and team members
- Handle complaints and resolve conflicts
- Serve as a Patient Safety Assistant (PSA) when needed, observing and documenting patient behavior, and remaining with the patient until relieved
- Travel between Erlanger campuses (BEH Erlanger, Children's, and Erlanger East) as required
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED, or occupational diploma paired with successful completion of the Project SEARCH program, or meet one of the preferred qualifications
- BLS certification completed prior to starting on the unit and maintained thereafter
- De-escalation training to be completed within 6 months of hire
- Willingness to travel between Erlanger campuses
Qualifications
Preferred:
- CNA certification
- EMT licensure
- First Responder Course completion
- Medical Assistant (MA) certification
- Hospital experience
