About the Role
The Patient Care Technician at Erlanger Health Systems provides direct and/or indirect care to patients on North Wing Seven, an internal medicine, diabetes, metabolic, cerebral vascular, and telemetry floor. The role requires demonstrating knowledge and skills appropriate to the age of patients served, exercising judgment to identify signs and symptoms needing further evaluation by a licensed nurse, and effectively communicating with patients, team members, and adapting to change.
Education
Required: High school diploma or GED, or an occupational diploma paired with successful completion of the Project SEARCH program. One of the following preferences may also apply:
- Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) in the State of Tennessee
- First Responder
- EMT
- Nursing student who has completed Fundamentals of Nursing
- Medical Assistant
- Pre-Med student
- Military Corpsman
- Combat Life Saver or Combat Medic
- Surgical Technician
Those employed as a Patient Care Technician prior to March 1, 2004, without the above educational requirements are grandfathered into the role. All Patient Care Technicians must successfully complete an Erlanger fundamentals checklist, observed demonstration, and pass a written exam.
Requirements
- BLS certification completed prior to working on the unit/department and maintained thereafter
- Preferred (but not required): CNA certification, EMT, or First Responder (if applicable)
Experience
Preferred, but not required.
