PCT-Elective Ortho Surgery Department-PRN

About the role

A non-licensed healthcare provider employed by Erlanger Health Systems is responsible for direct and/or indirect care of patients under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. The Patient Care Technician functions as a member of the surgical team.

Responsibilities

• Patient preparation for procedures
• Patient transport
• Patient positioning
• Extremity holds during prep
• Room turnover/cleaning
• Establishing and maintaining a sterile field
• Scrubbing into cases for retractor holding and/or camera holding
• Restocking supplies
• Inventory management

Requirements

• Education: High school diploma or GED or occupational diploma paired with successful completion of the Project Search program, or meet one of the preferred qualifications.
• Experience: None required.
• License/Certification: BLS completed prior to going to unit/department and maintained going forward; Completion of 8 hours of Erlanger Online Education specific to Total Ankle, Hip, Knee and Shoulder Replacement; Completion of 4 of these hours as Erlanger Online Education upon hire (EOLS's and other training will be assigned by Department Leadership and/or Educator).

Qualifications

• Education (Preferred): Certified Nursing Assistant in the State of Tennessee, First Responder, EMT, Nursing student having completed Fundamentals of Nursing, Medical Assistant, Pre-Med student, Military Corpsman, Combat Life Saver or Combat Medic, or Surgical Technician.
• Experience (Preferred): Hospital experience; Training in surgical aseptic technique and the OR environment.
• License/Certification (Preferred): CNA certification, EMT licensure, First Responder, MA certification.

• Demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of patients served.
• Exercise judgment to recognize and identify signs and symptoms requiring further evaluation by a licensed nurse.
• Effectively communicate with customers and team members.
• Be flexible and adapt easily to change.
• Assist nurse in admission process.
• Adhere to HIPAA guidelines.
• Transport patients to receiving departments.
