About the role
HCA Houston Healthcare Medical Center is seeking a PBX Operator PRN to join our team. We invest in our team members, having committed up to $300 million in programs to support our colleagues over three years.
Responsibilities
- Operate multiple position telephone consoles
- Answer all incoming and inter-hospital calls within 30 seconds
- Page over public address system
- Page physicians and authorized personnel only within one minute of request
- Place long distance calls for patients when necessary (collect, credit card, or billed to third party number) within one minute of request
- Maintain print of alpha census each shift
- Screen all incoming calls for recovery room, MICU, SICU, and Surgery (no more than 3 valid complaints per month for incorrect call transfers)
- Maintain personnel "on-call" file from various departments and keep it current
- Take messages and notify personnel "on-call" during weekends, holidays, and after hours by calling home number first, then paging (notification continues for 20 minutes)
- Respond to all emergency codes within 5 seconds and proceed with appropriate procedures
- In the event of communication equipment failure (telephone, pagers, overhead PA system, etc.), immediately contact Department Director and notify Telecom Company
- Articulate departmental PI/QC activities
- Articulate one of the top four hospital-wide activities
- State the methodology for PI used by the organization
- Assist in one of the following PI activities: assist in data collection, identify opportunities for improvement in department or organization, or participate on a PI team
Qualifications
- Education: High School diploma or equivalent
- Experience: 1 year PBX experience, multi-line telephone experience, and paging experience preferred
- Skills: Basic computer operations (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook); basic telephone skills including answering, placing on hold, transferring, and courteous voice
- No travel required
