About the role

The Community Storyteller Initiative is a project by PBS SoCal aimed at capturing the history, neighborhoods, and cultural moments shaping Los Angeles for the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The initiative commissions short videos from local storytellers and creative teams.

Responsibilities

  • Commissioned to produce one short video (5–8 minutes) and a 60-second vertical video for social media.
  • Receive a grant of up to $6,500 to support the production of the videos.
  • Videos will premiere on PBS SoCal’s digital platforms and may be featured in broadcast specials, community screenings, and national PBS Olympic & Paralympic coverage.

Requirements

  • Based in Southern California.
  • Voices reflecting LA’s diverse cultural mosaic and region.
  • Strong visual storytelling skills and connection to the community featured in the video.
  • Proposed stories should center on venues or neighborhoods directly connected to LA’s Olympic past or future.
  • Ability to combine archival materials, original footage, and interviews.
  • Explore themes of heritage, identity, legacy, and change.
  • Maintain PBS editorial standards for accuracy and fairness.
