Responsibilities
- Process and review federal, state, and local payroll tax filings and payments.
- Ensure payroll tax deposits and filings are completed accurately and on time.
- Reconcile payroll tax liabilities, payments, and general ledger accounts.
- Research and resolve payroll tax discrepancies, notices, and agency inquiries.
- Maintain accurate employee and employer tax records, including tax jurisdictions and withholding requirements.
- Monitor changes in federal, state, and local payroll tax laws and assess their impact on payroll operations.
- Prepare and submit quarterly and annual payroll tax returns and related reporting.
- Assist with year-end payroll activities, including W-2 and other wage/tax reporting.
- Coordinate with payroll providers and tax agencies to resolve filing, payment, and registration issues.
- Support payroll tax audits and provide requested documentation and reports.
- Review payroll calculations and tax withholding for accuracy.
- Maintain documentation of tax processes, controls, reconciliations, and compliance activities.
- Identify opportunities to improve payroll tax processes, controls, and automation.
- Protect confidential employee, payroll, and tax information.
- Perform other related duties as required and assigned.
Requirements
- Associate’s degree in accounting required.
- 2–5 years of experience in payroll tax, payroll processing, accounting, or a related function.
- Experience with payroll systems, tax filing platforms, multi-state payroll taxation and responding to payroll tax notices and supporting tax audits.
Skills
- Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local payroll tax requirements.
- Advanced Excel skills and experience with reconciliations and data analysis.
- Strong attention to detail, organization, and the ability to research tax regulations and resolve complex discrepancies.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
- Knowledge of payroll accounting and general ledger reconciliation is preferred.
Schedule
This position works between the hours of 7 AM and 5 PM, Monday–Friday. Overtime may be required.
