Role and Responsibilities
- Reconcile payroll tax accounts and resolve any discrepancies or issues in collaboration with payroll and finance teams.
- Prepare and file accurate federal, state, and local 940/941 amendments and initiate W-2Cs if necessary.
- Monitor changes in payroll tax legislation and implement necessary adjustments to payroll processes and reporting.
- Cook with external auditors and tax authorities during audits and inquiries related to payroll taxes.
- Maintain detailed documentation of payroll tax filings, payments, and correspondence for audit readiness.
- Analyze payroll tax data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for process improvements.
- Support the payroll department in ensuring timely and accurate payroll tax deposits and reporting.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- At least 3 years of experience in payroll tax accounting or payroll tax compliance.
- Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local payroll tax regulations and filing requirements.
- Proficiency with payroll systems and tax filing software.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation.
- Familiarity with HRIS systems, ADP preferred.
- Advanced Excel skills including pivot tables, formulas, and data analysis.
- Experience managing payroll tax audits and working with tax authorities.
