We are looking for an experienced Payroll Supervisor/Manager to provide short-term coverage for a two-week contract assignment in Long Beach, California.

About the role

This role will oversee payroll operations for a large employee population, ensuring timely and accurate processing across multiple states. The ideal candidate brings strong hands-on payroll leadership experience, works confidently in ADP Workforce Now, and can step in quickly within a fast-paced service environment.

Responsibilities

  • Manage end-to-end payroll activities for more than 500 employees while maintaining accuracy, compliance, and established pay schedules.
  • Process bi-monthly payroll for a multi-state workforce and verify that earnings, deductions, and tax withholdings are handled correctly.
  • Use ADP Workforce Now to review payroll data, resolve discrepancies, and support smooth payroll execution during the coverage period.
  • Supervise daily payroll operations and serve as the primary point of contact for payroll-related questions from internal stakeholders.
  • Audit payroll records and reports to identify issues, correct exceptions, and help ensure adherence to company policies and applicable regulations.
  • Coordinate with HR, finance, and other internal teams to gather updates affecting employee pay, time records, and payroll adjustments.
  • Apply prior knowledge of construction and union payroll practices when relevant to employee classifications, pay rules, or reporting needs.

Requirements

  • Proven experience leading full-cycle payroll processing in a supervisor or manager-level role.
  • Strong background managing payroll for a workforce of 500 or more employees.
  • Hands-on experience administering multi-state payroll with a solid understanding of compliance requirements.
  • Proficiency with ADP Workforce Now in a high-volume payroll environment.
  • Experience processing bi-monthly payroll accurately and within deadlines.
  • Ability to step into a short-term contract assignment and contribute with minimal ramp-up time.
  • Construction and union payroll experience is preferred.
