Payroll Specialist - Kansas City, KS

About the role

Heartland Traffic Services is a full-service line striping and pavement marking company providing high-quality highway, roadway, and parking lot striping services. We are seeking a detail-oriented Payroll Specialist to join our team. The Payroll Specialist works closely with Operations, Human Resources, and Accounting to support daily payroll activities.

Responsibilities

• Process weekly payroll and reconcile employee timecards.
• Monitor and maintain employee timekeeping records.
• Resolve payroll and timekeeping discrepancies with employees and supervisors.
• Support certified payroll and prevailing wage reporting.
• Complete monthly payroll reports and required Department of Labor filings.
• Assist with annual payroll activities, including W-2 processing.
• Coordinate payroll garnishments with HR and Accounts Payable.
• Maintain payroll records while ensuring confidentiality and accuracy.
• Assist with other payroll and administrative duties as needed.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• 3+ years of payroll processing experience.
• 3+ years of experience with timekeeping systems.
• Strong Microsoft Office skills, especially Excel.
• Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Strong communication and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to manage confidential information with professionalism.

Preferred Qualifications

• Certified payroll experience, preferably in construction.
• Experience with prevailing wage projects.
• Experience with QuickBooks Time, COINS ERP, or similar payroll software.
• Knowledge of payroll tax regulations, certified payroll, and prevailing wage requirements.
