About the role

This is a full-time, on-site role based in Modesto, CA. The Accounting Generalist and Payroll professional handles day-to-day accounting tasks such as posting journal entries, reconciling accounts, assisting with financial statement preparation, and supporting general finance activities. The role also manages payroll processing, including timekeeping review, payroll calculations, benefits deductions, and compliance with applicable laws and company policies.

Daily responsibilities include maintaining accurate records, responding to employee payroll inquiries, supporting management with financial data, and collaborating with other departments to ensure smooth operations. The individual in this role will contribute to continuous process improvement and uphold the company’s standards of accuracy, confidentiality, and customer service.

Responsibilities

• Post journal entries and reconcile accounts
• Assist with financial statement preparation
• Support general finance activities
• Manage payroll processing, including timekeeping review, payroll calculations, and benefits deductions
• Ensure compliance with applicable laws and company policies

Requirements

• Strong accounting skills, including journal entries and familiarity with financial statements
• Finance and analytical skills to interpret data, support decision-making, and assist with reporting
• Effective communication skills to work with team members, leadership, and staff regarding payroll and accounting matters
• Experience in payroll processing, timekeeping systems, and basic HR/payroll compliance
• Proficiency with accounting and payroll software, as well as MS Excel and other Office applications
• Attention to detail, integrity in handling confidential information, and ability to meet deadlines
• Relevant education such as an associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent experience
• Experience in a trades, service, or construction environment is a plus
