About the role
The Payroll Specialist under the supervision of the Payroll Supervisor is responsible for preparing and disbursing the Agency's bi-weekly payroll using payroll and time-and-attendance software.
Responsibilities
- Prepares and disburses the Agency's bi-weekly payroll using payroll and time-and-attendance software.
- Works in a team to perform detailed administrative support work, including establishing and maintaining the Agency's position control system.
- Maintains electronic and hardcopy employee demographic and pay data.
- Calculates and submits manual check payment requests.
- Reviews and tracks position incumbencies and vacancies and ensures they are correctly related to current and former employees as appropriate.
- Routinely interfaces with Agency employees and managers regarding payroll and time and attendance activities and procedures.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- One year of experience in payroll processing or similar administrative support work.
- Knowledge of payroll systems and software.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Qualifications
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Experience with time and attendance tracking systems.
- Knowledge of employment laws and regulations related to payroll and employee benefits.

Benefits
This is an on-premise, weekday position in downtown Bakersfield, California. This position is not eligible for hybrid remote work.
Pay
Salary range: $40,000 - $50,000 annually.
Schedule
Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM.
