Payroll Specialist
About the role
The City of Edinburg is seeking a dedicated Payroll Specialist to prepare and process payroll on a biweekly/monthly/annual basis, including preparing and submitting all applicable State and Federal payroll-related reports.
Responsibilities
As a Payroll Specialist, you will spend your time processing payroll checks and reports, adding applicable wage garnishment, verifying W-4s and HR benefits open enrollment data on an annual basis, and assisting with preparation of year-end payroll forms and reports. You will also respond to customer inquiries regarding account status and payments, and provide assistance and support to other divisions within the department as needed.
Qualifications
- High school diploma, GED or equivalency
- Preferred: Associate's Degree in a related field
- Requires one (1) year of experience in computerized payroll and financial accounting systems
- Requires one (1) year of experience in data entry, bookkeeping, and personal computers
- Preferred: Two (2) years' experience in computerized payroll and financial accounting systems and data entry, bookkeeping, and personal computers
- Must have a current valid class "C" driver's license from the Texas Department of Public Safety with a satisfactory driving record
- Bilingual English/Spanish preferred
Skills
The ideal candidate will have excellent oral and written communication skills, be attentive to detail, and enjoy working as part of a team. Dependability is also a key strength for this role.
