Mid-sized education law firm with statewide practice representing school and community college districts seeks a detail-oriented Payroll Specialist/Accounting Clerk to join our team in San Francisco. Responsibilities

  • Process semi-monthly payroll from start to finish, ensuring accuracy and compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
  • Maintain and reconcile the firm’s payroll system and records, including required documentation.
  • Process invoices, expense reimbursements, and other payment-related documents with a high degree of accuracy; maintain supporting files.
  • Support the firm’s credit card program: issue and cancel cards via the vendor portal, maintain invoices, and investigate unauthorized charges or errors.
  • Coordinate employee reimbursements and manage vendor payments.
  • Review and reconcile financial records for accuracy.
  • Interface with internal departments, management, vendors, and clients.
  • Provide back-up assistance to other departments as needed.
  • Collect and distribute firm mail.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required; Associate’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of accounts payable experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of recent payroll processing experience using a payroll system such as Paycom, ADP, or Paychex.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Strong writing, communication, and client service skills.
  • Ability to prioritize work effectively, meet deadlines, and solve problems under pressure.
  • Proven track record of sound judgment, problem-solving, and maintaining confidentiality.
  • Knowledge of California wage and hour laws and payroll taxes.
  • Experience with SurePoint, Aderant, or Elite client accounting systems is a plus.
  • Law firm experience preferred.
  • Ability to travel to the East Bay office at least once per week through December 31, 2026.

Pay

The hourly rate range for this position is $40.00 – $50.00. The final rate will depend on relevant experience, skills, qualifications, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
