About the role

Northwest Pump is seeking a Payroll Lead to oversee payroll operations across multiple companies and states. In this role, you'll ensure employees are paid accurately, on time, and in compliance with applicable regulations while driving continuous improvement across our payroll function. This is an opportunity to lead payroll operations, shape payroll systems and processes, and serve as the organization's payroll expert.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee multi-state payroll processing for multiple entities, ensuring accuracy and compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Manage and improve payroll systems and processes, including prevailing wage payroll and certified payroll reporting.
  • Serve as the organization’s payroll expert, addressing complex payroll challenges and ensuring adherence to wage and hour laws.
  • Maintain strong knowledge of payroll tax regulations, particularly in California and Washington.
  • Collaborate with employees, vendors, and leadership to meet payroll deadlines and resolve issues.
  • Handle sensitive information with discretion and maintain confidentiality.

Requirements

  • Three or more years of progressively responsible payroll experience.
  • Experience processing multi-state payroll for multiple entities (California experience preferred).
  • Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local payroll tax regulations and wage and hour laws.
  • Experience with payroll and HRIS systems (ADP Workforce Now preferred).
  • Experience with prevailing wage payroll, certified payroll reporting, and applicable regulations (particularly California and Washington) is a plus.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while consistently meeting payroll deadlines.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively; self-motivated and dependable.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, Business, or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States and able to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check.

Schedule

Full-time, non-exempt position with optional hybrid availability. Regular business hours, Monday through Friday.
