Payroll Director

About the role

This is a full-time, in-person role located in Brooklyn, NY with a salary range of $100k - $150k. The position requires an experienced, detail‑oriented professional to lead and manage overall payroll operations, ensuring accurate and timely processing while maintaining strict compliance with federal and state regulations.

Responsibilities

• Oversee and process biweekly payroll for a workforce of 800+ employees.
• Ensure full compliance with all federal, state, and local wage and hour laws.
• Manage payroll systems and collaborate with HR and Finance teams to streamline data flow and accuracy.
• Maintain payroll policies, procedures, and documentation for audits and regulatory requirements.
• Lead payroll‑related projects, including system upgrades, automation, and reporting improvements.
• Partner with HR and Finance on budgeting, forecasting, and employee compensation reporting.
• Provide excellent internal customer service to staff regarding payroll inquiries.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience).
• Minimum of 3 years of hands‑on payroll experience; nonprofit or healthcare sector experience considered a plus.
• Strong understanding of payroll laws and regulations is mandatory.
• Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills to effectively lead operations.

Pay

The salary range for this full‑time role is $100k - $150k.
