We are looking for a detail-oriented Payroll Clerk to support accurate and timely payroll operations for a large employee population in Fargo, North Dakota. This is a long-term contract position.
About the role
This role will contribute to smooth payroll processing by ensuring data accuracy, supporting compliance requirements, and assisting with related accounting activities.
Responsibilities
- Manage and update the electronic timekeeping system to support accurate payroll records for a large workforce.
- Enter and maintain multi-state payroll information within payroll and administrative systems with a high level of accuracy.
- Review payroll data before final submission, identify discrepancies, and confirm reports are complete and correct.
- Process payroll on schedule for multiple entities while meeting established deadlines.
- Prepare certified payroll reporting for projects subject to prevailing wage requirements.
- Calculate and record payroll-related deductions and obligations, including taxes, retirement contributions, direct deposits, garnishments, and other withholdings.
- Respond to questions from employees and external contacts by explaining payroll procedures, researching issues, and resolving discrepancies.
- Reconcile payroll accounts with the general ledger and support accurate financial reporting through journal entries as needed.
- Utilize payroll platforms such as ADP and, when applicable, systems like Viewpoint Vista or Oracle Fusion to support payroll administration.
Requirements
- 3+ years of payroll experience, including end-to-end payroll processing responsibilities.
- Experience handling multi-state payroll in a high-volume environment.
- Ability to process payroll accurately for organizations with more than 500 employees.
- Familiarity with payroll systems such as ADP; exposure to Viewpoint Vista or Oracle Fusion is a plus.
- Working knowledge of payroll taxes, deductions, garnishments, and direct deposit administration.
- Experience reconciling payroll data and supporting general ledger accuracy.
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and problem-solving ability.
- Effective communication skills for assisting employees and coordinating with internal and external stakeholders.
