Payroll Accountant
Job Summary
Orthopaedic Solutions Management (OSM) is seeking a Payroll Accountant to support payroll operations for a large, multi-state workforce of approximately 3,000 employees. This role is responsible for ensuring accurate, compliant, and timely payroll processing while serving as a key resource for payroll analysis, reconciliations, reporting, and process improvement initiatives.
About the Role
The Payroll Accountant plays a critical role in maintaining payroll integrity across a complex healthcare organization, partnering closely with Human Resources, Finance, Operations, and department leaders to resolve payroll issues, improve processes, and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Own and execute full-cycle payroll processing for a multi-state employee population of approximately 3,000 employees.
- Ensure payroll is processed accurately, timely, and in compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations.
- Review, audit, and reconcile payroll data to identify and resolve discrepancies prior to payroll processing.
- Investigate and resolve complex payroll issues, including taxation, earnings adjustments, deductions, retroactive payments, and off-cycle payrolls.
- Maintain payroll records and supporting documentation in accordance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
- Lead year-end payroll activities, including W-2 processing, payroll tax reconciliations, and audit preparation.
- Respond to payroll-related inquiries while maintaining confidentiality and professionalism.
- Perform payroll audits, reconciliations, balancing activities, and payroll-related accounting functions to ensure payroll accuracy and data integrity.
- Analyze payroll trends, variances, labor data, and workforce metrics to support business decisions.
- Prepare and validate payroll-related reporting for internal stakeholders and regulatory agencies.
- Support compensation analysis, pay range development, workforce reporting, and other payroll-related analytics as assigned.
- Partner with Finance and Accounting teams to support payroll-related reconciliations, budgeting, and reporting requirements.
- Aid in EEO, BLS, labor, compensation, and workforce reporting requirements as needed.
- Support payroll system maintenance, testing, upgrades, and ongoing optimization efforts.
- Participate in HRIS and payroll system implementations, data validation, parallel testing, and issue resolution activities.
- Document payroll procedures, standard operating processes, and system-related workflows.
- Collaborate with managers and department leaders to improve payroll accuracy and reduce processing errors.
Additional Responsibilities
- Serve as a subject matter resource for payroll processes, reporting, and compliance matters.

Required Education & Experience
- Associate's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Minimum of three (3) years of payroll, accounting, finance, payroll analysis, or related experience.
- Experience supporting payroll operations in a multi-state environment.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including formulas, pivot tables, data analysis, and reporting.
- Working knowledge of payroll tax regulations, wage and hour laws, and payroll compliance requirements.
Preferred Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Human Resources, or a related field.
- Experience supporting payroll for large employee populations.
- Experience within healthcare, physician practice management, healthcare services, MSO, or multi-location organizations.
- Experience with UKG Pro (UltiPro) or similar enterprise payroll systems.
- Experience supporting payroll system implementations, conversions, upgrades, or HRIS transitions.
- Strong analytical, accounting, and problem-solving abilities.
- High attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
- Comfortable collaborating across Human Resources, Finance, Operations, and leadership teams.
- Ability to balance technical payroll expertise with strong customer service and communication skills.
