The Role and Why It's Important Our Pay Station Clerks keep the dining and checkout experience running smoothly for customers enjoying everything our store has to offer. In this role, you'll operate the register, assist customers with their orders, and help maintain a clean and well-stocked environment so every visit is a great one. What You'll Do No two shifts are exactly the same, but here's what you can expect: Provide prompt, friendly customer service by greeting customers with a smile, learning their names, and making every interaction a positive oneOperate the cash register accurately, scanning product and processing all payment types including cash, checks, credit card transactions, in-store charges, coupons, and discountsCount back change and issue receipts, and place merchandise in bags or boxes for customersEnsure adequate supplies of silverware, condiments, and beverage cups are on hand for customer useRefill and maintain the coffee service area including cups, utensils, and condimentsAssist with bussing tables in the Hickory House or Market Grille sit-down areas and run orders out to the dining area from food stations as neededPractice proper sanitation procedures and keep your work area clean and organized throughout your shiftAnswer the telephone promptly and provide friendly, helpful service to customers who callWork with co-workers as a team to ensure customer satisfaction and a pleasant work environmentAssist in other areas of the store as needed and take on special projects as assignedMaintain strict adherence to personal hygiene, dress standards, and all Hy-Vee policies and store guidelinesReport to work when scheduled and on time Your Skills To be successful, you'll need to be able to: Follow detailed written or verbal instructions and work through tasks with a few concrete variablesPerform arithmetic calculations involving fractions, decimals, and percentages and make change accuratelyUnderstand and follow verbal or demonstrated directions and communicate supply needs orally or in writingWork effectively as part of a team to deliver a great customer experience Reporting Relationships Accountable and Reports to: Store Director; Store Manager; Assistant Managers of HWH, Perishables, Store Operations, and eCommerce; Service Managers Education And Experience No education or experience requirements; we will provide all the training you need to succeed Physical Requirements Frequently stand and walk throughout a shift in sales, food service, or delivery areasWhere applicable to the role: ability to safely use sharp knives and blades for food preparationWhere applicable to the role: exposure to heat- and burn-related hazards associated with cooking, baking, or grilling equipmentWhere applicable to the role: ability to operate a delivery vehicle in accordance with applicable DOT standardsPerform repetitive standing, walking, reaching, and bending associated with order fulfillment, POS transactions, and cleaning/sanitation duties Working Environment This is a fast-paced role in a retail store and dining environment where you will be on your feet throughout your shift. You will have frequent exposure to temperature extremes and dampness, with possible equipment movement hazards and exposure to cleaning chemicals or solvents.
