Paving Foreman

Supervises and works alongside a crew of employees and occasionally subcontractors to assist in the installation and construction of paving projects. Practices absolute confidentiality, exercises good judgment, and performs other tasks as assigned.

Responsibilities

• Complies with all safety policies, procedures, and established safe practices; ensures crew compliance.
• Reports unsafe conditions and actions to a supervisor and/or the Manager Safety & Health.
• Trains, develops, and monitors safety practices (including PPE) through safety meetings, one-on-one development, reminders, and disciplinary action.
• Follows all requirements in the Supervisor Safety Procedure Manual (SSPM), including safety training, emergency procedures, accident reporting, and employee observations.
• Ensures compliance with all policies, OSHA, MSHA, and NCDOT guidelines for production staff.
• Maintains a clean and orderly work area per Sunrock, MSHA 30 CFR 56.20003, and OSHA 29 CFR 1910.22 standards.
• Reads and follows plans, material lists, and guidelines; applies necessary timelines.
• Fulfills installation/construction duties, including project layout and completes required paperwork.
• Organizes, supervises, leads, and trains employees to complete projects within established guidelines and timeframe.
• Submits crewmember timesheets to payroll by the required deadline.
• Participates in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals.
• Provides leadership through example and sharing of knowledge/skill.
• Enforces all client-required safety policies and procedures.
• Complies with company policies, procedures, and safety requirements, including crewmember discipline and documentation.
• Attends meetings as required.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED preferred.
• Three (3) to five (5) years of related experience required; other combinations of education and experience may be considered.
• Current North Carolina Driver’s License.

Skills

• Ability to read, comprehend, and write simple instructions and correspondence.
• Effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations.
• Basic arithmetic skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, rates, ratios, percentages, and interpreting bar graphs).
• Apply common sense to carry out instructions in written, oral, or diagram form.
• Handle problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
• Basic personal computer skills.
• Prioritize tasks and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.

Preferred Certifications

• OSHA 10-hour certification.
• Storm Water Supervisor Level II Certification.
• Lane Closure Certification.
• Trenching safety and confined space certification.

Schedule

• Day or night shift, eight (8) to fourteen (14) hours, Monday through Friday.
• Weekend work may be required depending on the contract.
• Minimal overnight travel (up to 10%).
