Paving Foreman

About the role

The Paving Foreman supervises and works alongside a crew of employees and occasionally subcontractors when needed to assist in the installation and construction paving projects. The incumbent will supervise work through the planning and scheduling of work and the review and approval of tasks. The individual will practice absolute confidentiality. Good judgment and common sense are required in all duties and any other tasks as assigned.

Responsibilities

• Complies with all safety policies, procedures and established safe practices and ensures that all employees reporting to you do the same.
• Reports all unsafe conditions and actions to a supervisor and/or the Manager Safety & Health.
• Trains, develops, and monitors the safety practices (including PPE) of own employees through regularly scheduled safety meetings, one on one development, reminders and disciplinary action, if necessary.
• Fulfills all regular and advanced installation/construction duties including project layout and completes required paperwork in a timely manner.
• Organizes, supervises, leads, and trains employees to complete projects within established guidelines and timeframe.
• Sets up and operates equipment, tools, and machinery as required.
• Submits crewmember’s timesheets to payroll by required deadline.
• Participates in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals.
• Provides leadership to others through example and sharing of knowledge/skill.
• Enforces all client required safety policies and procedures.
• Complies with all company policies and procedures and safety requirements including crewmember discipline and documentation.
• Attends meetings as required.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) preferred.
• Three (3) to five (5) years of related experience required.
• OSHA 10 hour preferred.
• Lane Closure Certification Preferred.
• Trenching safety and confined space certification preferred.
• Current North Carolina Driver’s License.

Qualifications

• Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.

• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
• Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
