Job Summary
We are seeking a motivated Foundry Pattern Shop Technician to join our team. This role is ideal for individuals with a passion for craftsmanship and an interest in traditional and modern manufacturing techniques. As a technician, you will work alongside experienced pattern makers to create and repair tooling used in the sand-casting process. You will learn traditional methods and gain exposure to cutting-edge technologies such as CNC machining and 3D printing for pattern creation.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities
- Assist in the construction and assembly of patterns and core boxes used in sand casting.
- Repair and maintain existing patterns and tooling to ensure quality and longevity.
- Operate manual woodworking and metalworking tools to shape and finish patterns according to specifications.
- Collaborate with senior pattern makers to interpret technical drawings and implement design changes.
- Learn and apply CNC programming and operation for pattern production.
- Utilize 3D modeling software and 3D printers to develop new patterns and prototypes.
- Follow safety protocols and maintain a clean and organized work environment.
- Support foundry operations by ensuring patterns meet dimensional and structural requirements.
Qualifications and Skills
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Technical coursework in machining or related field preferred.
- Basic understanding of woodworking and metalworking techniques.
- Familiarity with CAD/CAM software is a plus.
- Ability to read technical drawings and follow instructions accurately.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
- Willingness to learn modern technologies and methods in pattern making.
- Effective communication skills and the ability to work well within a team environment.
- Ability to lift and move heavy objects and work on your feet for extended periods.
- Previous experience in manufacturing, production, or an industrial environment preferred.
- Ability to use hand tools and power tools safely and effectively.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent hand–eye coordination and attention to detail.
- Effective communication skills with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to perform accurate measurements and basic arithmetic.
- Ability to follow instructions, read work orders, and maintain production records.
- Ability to work in an industrial environment with exposure to heat, noise, and dust.
- Reliable attendance and punctuality.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
Physical Requirements
This position requires the ability to stand for extended periods and safely perform material handling and physical tasks throughout the workday.
Working Conditions
This position requires that the employee be periodically exposed to fumes and airborne particles such as those commonly found while performing carpentry. The employee will be stationed near light and heavy machinery and periodically exposed to noise and vibration from those devices. While the employee’s primary workstation is in an air-conditioned environment, it will be necessary to work in an outdoor environment on occasion. The employee is required to wear the appropriate PPE, which always includes steel-toed shoes and safety glasses, and must wear a hard-hat, ear protection, and/or respirator when entering specific areas of the manufacturing environment that require it.
