About the role

Patrols the Southern Ute Indian Reservation and is responsible for preserving the life and property of all citizens within the Tribal Community.

This position is a grade N15; pay is $35.96/hour.

Requirements

  • High School Degree or Equivalent.
  • At least 3 years of service as a certified full-time law enforcement officer.
  • Successfully completed the approved basic police training course conducted at the Indian Police Academy or similar accredited police academy substantially meeting or exceeding the level of training provided by the Indian Police Academy or a respective State POST certification. Certification must be active and current and maintained throughout employment.
  • Applicant Officers with certifications from outside the State of Colorado or the Bureau of Indian Affairs United States Indian Police Academy must successfully complete the Colorado POST Provisional Certification Process or the Bureau of Indian Affairs Certification by Waiver within six months of hire.
  • Knowledge of the Southern Ute Tribal criminal justice system (or ability to obtain).
  • Maintain handgun certification throughout duration of employment.
  • Pass a comprehensive Law Enforcement background investigation to obtain and maintain the Special Law Enforcement Commission (SLEC) prior to and throughout employment.
  • Obtain and maintain Federal Deputy Special Officer Commission Card within one year of appointment.
  • Obtain and maintain a Tribal Police Commission card within 90 days of appointment.
  • Maintain a telephone for emergency calls.
  • Valid Driver’s License for state of residency and be insurable under the Tribal vehicle insurance policy.
  • Never convicted of a felony or a crime of misdemeanor domestic violence in State, Tribal or Federal court.
  • No conviction or deferred judgment for any misdemeanor crime for 1 year prior to appointment.
  • No restraining order or order of protection.
  • Pass a pre-employment medical exam and annually thereafter.
  • Pass a timed Physical Agility test during the first 90 days of employment and annually thereafter. The test consists of a serpentine run, 150 lb. body drag, 3ft barrier vault, bed search, stair climb, 5ft barrier up & over, tunnel crawl, and a lift & carry.
  • Pass a psychological evaluation prior to employment.
  • Excellent character and reputation; pass a thorough background check including fingerprints.
  • Pass a LE pre-employment drug test.
