What You Will Do
- Assists with mobilizing patients using lift equipment and/or mobilization aids and other trained health care professionals to provide safe and effective patient transports throughout the facility.
- Transport equipment, supplies, specimens, and patients using the transport tracking system; ensuring that the patients are monitored and the environmental pathway is safe for travel.
Required Qualifications
- H.S. Diploma or Equivalent
- American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support for Healthcare Professional (AHA BLS Healthcare) - REQUIRED
- 1 Year Hospital experience or similar experience - PREFERRED
Essential Functions
- Communicate effectively in a demanding environment.
- Demonstrate positive interpersonal skills and attitude towards patients, visitors, physicians, coworkers, supervisor, and all hospital staff.
- Communicate relevant patient information to appropriate staff.
- Recognize and address barriers to transporting and communicating with patients and their plan of care, seeking resources or options as needed.
- Communicate incomplete transports to appropriate units and staff.
- Communicate with all team members regarding day-to-day operations, barriers, and obstacles for transporting.
- Effectively provide safe and effective transports of patients utilizing correct mode of travel.
- Comply with all mobility requirements and ensure that equipment is available, stored properly, and cleaned regularly.
- Transfer and transport patients, with assistance, using complex clinical support equipment safely, maintaining the integrity of intravenous lines, suction devices, feeding tubes, etc.
- Take action in life-threatening situations and immediately notify the licensed nurse.
- Mobilize patients according to the Registered Nurse's direction, utilizing appropriate equipment or assist devices.
- Ambulate patients utilizing the appropriate equipment or assist device.
- Aid in lateral and supine patient transfers between bed, chair, gurney, and other surfaces.
- Transport patients and items correctly using the transport tracking system.
- Identify patients using two patient identifiers and follow the required patient hand-off protocol.
- Sign patients in and out of the morgue in the log book.
- Knowledge of proper body mechanics for safe transfer of patient and self.
- Working knowledge of medical terminology.
