For Internal Transport
- Transports patient via wheelchairs, beds, stretchers to appointments internally
- Engages patients and family during transport
- Ensures proper handoff of patient to appropriate staff at the destination
- Conducts return transport procedures, confirming proper handoff to nursing unit staff
- Maintains a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following all policies and procedures.
For External Transport
- Safely escorts wheelchair patients and family through the posted parking garage walkways to the vehicles
- Safely operates the lift and loads/secures patient and family
- Performs routine maintenance and cleaning of vehicle
- Communicates effectively using timely verbal, nonverbal and written communication
- Willingly adapts to changing work demands and work environment
- Performs other duties that may be assigned in the best interest of the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab.
Reporting Relationships
Reports directly to the Director, Central Supply & Distribution.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required
- A high school diploma or equivalent required
- Strong customer skills
- A valid Illinois driver's license and clean driving record in the state of Illinois is required
- Able to safely drive and fully operate an ADA-configured full-size van [Ford E-350] in an enclosed garage environment and dense, urban vehicular traffic
- Basic computer skills
- Successful completion of transporter orientation
- Able to lift 50 lbs. and push/pull 100 lbs.
Working Conditions
Normal office environment with little or no exposure to dust or extreme temperature.
