Department: Carolinas Medical Center – Patient Transport

Status: Full time, benefits eligible

Schedule

  • Monday – Friday, 2:00 pm – 10:30 pm
  • 40 hours per week

Pay

Pay range: $18.85 – $28.30 per hour

Responsibilities

  • Role-model a positive Advocate Health image to patients, visitors, and staff by adhering to Our Advocate Health Way
  • Deliver excellent customer service during daily transports
  • Provide guest/transport services including transports, transfers, discharges, admissions, escorts, and movement of materials and equipment (e.g., oxygen cylinders, intravenous pumps, PCA pumps, wound vacs)
  • Coordinate activities to guide patients, visitors, and staff to desired locations within the facilities
  • Adjust liter flow and determine PSI in oxygen cylinders; transfer cannula tubing between wall units and cylinders
  • Perform safe patient handling: moving patients, patient lifts, stand-pivot and lateral transfers
  • Educate patients and visitors on room orientation, transport processes, and answer questions about support services or direct to appropriate resources
  • Use capacity management systems and equipment (Encompass/Epic, iPhone, Halo, computers) to process tasks
  • Assist with care and maintenance of transport equipment to ensure safety, cleanliness, and readiness for use
  • Inspect equipment before and after use; report defective equipment to supervisor immediately
  • Monitor facilities to maintain a safe and clean environment (remove unattended equipment from hallways, ensure no blockage of electrical panels, fire extinguishers, or emergency exits)
  • Maintain equipment inventory throughout facilities (stretchers, wheelchairs, beds, oxygen cylinders and carriers, IV poles, etc.)
  • Complete and maintain required training, educational programs, and certifications
  • Attend required meetings
  • Adhere to Advocate Health and departmental policies and procedures

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Oral and written communication skills, organizational skills, typing, and leadership skills desirable
  • Previous experience in guest services, hospitality, or a physically demanding work environment desirable
  • BLS certification required within 6 months of hire
  • Computer and data entry skills desirable

Physical Requirements

  • Works in an indoor/outdoor fast-paced, customer-oriented environment
  • Lengthy periods of standing and walking
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds for moving and lifting patients
  • Ability to push/pull all patient transport equipment
  • Ability to maintain good working relationships with all departments
  • Ability to prioritize workload
  • Exposure to hazardous materials
