About the role

The Transportation Aide at Hackensack Meridian Health is responsible for transporting patients and/or specimens throughout the assigned area. This role involves ensuring safe handling of patients, maintaining communication with dispatch/modality/unit, and following established protocols.

Responsibilities

  • Transports patients by wheelchair and stretcher/bed, ensuring safety and preventing falls.
  • Transports patients to and from appropriate units or imaging modalities within expected time frames, ensuring charts are brought along.
  • Maintains open communication with Dispatch/Modality/Unit regarding task status, changes, and completion.
  • Maintains safety and cleanliness of patient support apparatus like IV pumps and oxygen tanks during transport.
  • Removes unsafe or unclean equipment from service.
  • Exchanges oxygen tanks as needed.
  • Picks up slides for physicians to review from the laboratory as requested.
  • Uses automated systems to assist with patient throughput in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Lifts a minimum of 10 lbs., pushes/pulls a minimum of 50 lbs., and stands for the duration of the shift.
  • Identifies and addresses the specific needs of the patient population served, including communication with patients, parents, and caregivers.
  • Assists with environmental duties such as picking up and disposing of recyclables and linens.
  • Adheres to cleaning requirements and procedures as assigned.
  • Complies with organizational competencies and standards.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma, general equivalency diploma (GED), or equivalent programs.
  • Utilizes social skills and communicates appropriately to alleviate fears and/or anxiety of the patient and provide the Best Healthcare Experience.

Skills and Abilities

  • Safe handling of patients and equipment.
  • Effective communication with patients, parents, and caregivers.
  • Proper use of personal protective equipment and hand hygiene.
  • Environmental duties and cleaning protocols.
  • Identification and addressing of patient needs.
