Responsibilities
- Moves patients between their beds on either a stretcher or wheelchair according to the guidelines and procedures.
- Use the two hospital patient identifiers (name and date of birth) both verbally and by visual checking of the patient ID band.
- Pay careful attention to the IV bag and other assistive devices when moving the patient.
- Adhere to and comply with infection and safety practices.
- Ensure the maintenance of the patient's confidentiality and privacy.
- Collaborates with nursing staff to ensure appropriate movement and transport of patient.
- Handles and delivers patients' chart according to hospital and department policies.
- Deliver and pick up clean and dirty instruments to and from SPD.
- Deliver specimens or pick up required items from Laboratory/Pathology, Radiology and Medical Records.
- Deliver patient belongings to appropriate clinical area as directed by the supervisor.
- During down times, maintain O2 stock by safely collecting and storing O2 per hospital rooms.
- At the direction of the charge nurse, stock patient rooms according to established PAR levels.
- Clean unoccupied stretchers.
- Pick up supplies/equipment as requested.
- Handle and deliver patients' belongings to appropriate clinical area as directed by the supervisor.
- Other duties and/or projects as assigned.
Qualifications
- High School diploma, general equivalency diploma (GED), and/or GED equivalent programs.
- Entry level position. On the job training will be provided by the Team Leader and Patient Transport staff.
- Must be able to support and push patients of various body conditions (weights ranging from 100 lbs to 300+ lbs).
- Must be able to work with the paging system that allows the facility to track the movement of the patients and the transport staff.
