Responsibilities

  • Moves patients between their beds on either a stretcher or wheelchair according to the guidelines and procedures.
  • Use the two hospital patient identifiers (name and date of birth) both verbally and by visual checking of the patient ID band.
  • Pay careful attention to the IV bag and other assistive devices when moving the patient.
  • Adhere to and comply with infection and safety practices.
  • Ensure the maintenance of the patient's confidentiality and privacy.
  • Collaborates with nursing staff to ensure appropriate movement and transport of patient.
  • Handles and delivers patients' chart according to hospital and department policies.
  • Deliver and pick up clean and dirty instruments to and from SPD.
  • Deliver specimens or pick up required items from Laboratory/Pathology, Radiology and Medical Records.
  • Deliver patient belongings to appropriate clinical area as directed by the supervisor.
  • During down times, maintain O2 stock by safely collecting and storing O2 per hospital rooms.
  • At the direction of the charge nurse, stock patient rooms according to established PAR levels.
  • Clean unoccupied stretchers.
  • Pick up supplies/equipment as requested.
  • Handle and deliver patients' belongings to appropriate clinical area as directed by the supervisor.
  • Other duties and/or projects as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma, general equivalency diploma (GED), and/or GED equivalent programs.
  • Entry level position. On the job training will be provided by the Team Leader and Patient Transport staff.
  • Must be able to support and push patients of various body conditions (weights ranging from 100 lbs to 300+ lbs).
  • Must be able to work with the paging system that allows the facility to track the movement of the patients and the transport staff.
