About the role

As part of the Volunteer Department team at Winchester Hospital, you will round the hospital to assess transport inventory and move equipment to optimize operations and maximize patient throughput.

Responsibilities

  • Greet and inform patients of the move process, ensuring they feel informed and comforted while fulfilling all safety and quality checks.
  • Move furniture to accommodate stretchers and/or wheelchairs.
  • Involve clinical staff in transferring patients from beds to stretchers or wheelchairs.
  • Push patients and their medical charts to various departments, conveying empathy and reassurance while maintaining patient dignity, comfort, and safety.
  • Notify the receiving department upon arrival and conduct a thorough handoff; explain next steps to the patient and stay with them if additional comfort or supervision is needed.
  • Transport select patients upon discharge, assist them into their vehicles if necessary, and end their stay with a friendly note.
  • Prioritize multiple transport requests to optimize patient throughput and reduce wait times, improving patient and family satisfaction.
  • Communicate with requesting departments to resolve transport conflicts.
  • Respond to pages regarding medical codes and retrieve fresh code carts to replenish supplies in involved departments.
  • Move code carts and patient care equipment throughout the hospital, including laboratory specimens and pharmacy supplies.
  • Respond to equipment issues promptly to ensure availability and maximize useful life.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (preferred).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (required).
  • Influenza vaccination (required as a condition of employment).

Pay

The base hourly pay range for this position is $17.00 - $22.88. Actual compensation is determined based on factors such as seniority, education, training, relevant experience, certifications, geography, job responsibilities, shift differentials, call pay, premium pay, overtime, and other applicable pay practices.
