About the role
Patient Services Technician under the direction of the area supervisor performs daily patient service activities of the Patient Services Center (PSC) or In-office Patient Services Technician (PST) accurately and on time.
Responsibilities
- Greet customers appropriately and treat all customers in a courteous manner.
- Collect specimens according to established procedures and properly explain the process of the venipuncture (blood drawing) and other specimen collection as required.
- Reduce patient anxiety by providing a calm environment for patients before, during, and after the collection process.
- Dispose of blood or other biohazard fluids or tissue, and contaminated sharps, in accordance with applicable laws, standards, or policies.
- Complete requisitions accurately in PathConnect and/or other Pathgroup computer applications.
- Enter patient, specimen, insurance, or billing information into computer with attention to detail to maintain high level of accuracy.
- Communicate with clients to confirm handwritten orders, verify test(s) ordered, obtain accurate billing information, etc.
- Research test/client information utilizing lab computer system.
- Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes, label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order.
- Package specimens for transport and store specimen sample according to required temperature.
- Maintain required records and documentation, including daily records and all appropriate PSC/IOPST Patient Services Technician logs.
- Assist with compilation of monthly statistics and data and perform basic clerical duties.
- Approve time in attendance software and submit accurate expense and travel logs.
- Demonstrate organizational commitment, adhere to departmental and company code of grooming and dress code, and utilize time appropriately.
- Display courteous and professional behavior to clients, patients, and co-workers and communicate with co-workers and clients in a way that promotes a harmonious and cooperative working environment.
- Ensure facilities are neat, clean, and in good repair, and utilize proper PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) to ensure patient and personal safety.
- Exercise all laboratory safety precautions and adhere to lab procedures as stated in procedure manuals.
- Perform all job responsibilities in alignment with the industry's best security practices and regulatory guidelines to protect the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of protected health information and other sensitive company data.
Requirements
The person in this position must be familiar with and abide by the Corporate Compliance Program and all Corporate policies, including the Privacy and Security policies.
Qualifications
The person in this position must demonstrate proficiency of proper collection methods and proper processing of all specimens, and be capable of maintaining fluctuating patient flow.
