Department: Urgent Care Center | FTE: 1.00 Full Time | Shift: Days

About the role

Perform patient care and support activities to promote a patient-focused care environment. Patient care assignment may include neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric age groups.

Responsibilities

  • Communication:
    • Communicate with staff to assure that patient is ready for transport
    • Communicate with patients to inform of reason for transport and to promote learning
  • Patient Care:
    • Assist patients with basic ADLs
    • Answer patients' lights and provide patient service within skill level, or relay patient's request to appropriate caregiver
    • Assist in preparation and maintenance of patient care areas
    • Pass and pick up dietary trays; communicate patient dietary needs as required
    • Identify interpersonal problem areas and demonstrate ability to resolve conflict with those involved in a positive, constructive manner
  • Patient Transport:
    • Transport patients to and from requesting areas; ensure adherence to all safety measures
  • Equipment:
    • Maintain unit equipment and manage routine repairs through clinical engineering
  • Supply:
    • Assist in setting unit supply PAR levels, order supplies on a daily basis, and stock supplies in a cost-effective manner
    • Assist in the acquisition of supplies, deliver supplies or specimens to other departments
  • Facility:
    • Report any physical plant safety issues or equipment problems to the appropriate resources
  • Computer:
    • Demonstrate proficiency in utilizing and accessing appropriate computer and information systems
  • Work Environment:
    • Able to work independently and within a team environment
    • Comply with work environment routines according to hospital, nursing division, and departmental policies and procedures
  • Confidentiality:
    • Maintain patient and staff confidentiality, yet report any breach of conduct
  • Patient Safety:
    • Follow patient safety-related policies, procedures, and protocols
    • Demonstrate a proactive approach to patient safety by seeking opportunities to improve patient safety through questioning of current policies and processes
    • Identify and report/correct environmental conditions and/or situations that may put a patient at undue risk
    • Report potential or actual patient safety concerns, medical errors, and/or near misses in a timely manner
    • Encourage patients to actively participate in their own care by asking questions and reporting treatment or situations they don’t understand or may “not seem right”

Requirements

  • Education: High School diploma or GED equivalent
  • Experience: 6 months of directly related experience
  • Credentials: CPR for Healthcare/BLS Provider or Professional Rescuers within 30 days of hire

Physical Conditions

  • Heavy Work: Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects or people
  • Working Conditions: Exposure to chemicals and biohazardous materials requiring PPE; limited access to medication room; adherence to Med Admin Policy, Attachment A
  • Tuberculosis testing is completed upon hire and additionally as required
