Schedule

  • Full-time, 40 hours per week
  • Monday through Friday
  • 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM
  • No weekends or holidays required
  • On-site position

Responsibilities

  • Provide a warm, welcoming experience for all patients and visitors.
  • Guide patients through self-arrival technology or assist with traditional check-in based on patient preference.
  • Collect copayments and other applicable patient payments at the point of service.
  • Confirm and update patient registration and demographic information during check-in and checkout.
  • Schedule follow-up appointments within the practice and connect patients with resources to schedule ancillary services as needed.
  • Help patients navigate the healthcare system by providing clear, understandable instructions and ensuring continuity of care through follow-up on unresolved questions or needs.
  • Demonstrate service recovery principles by taking appropriate action to address concerns and ensure an exceptional UPMC patient experience.
  • Register patients in the biometric (fingerprint recognition) program and educate them on its benefits.
  • Promote the MyUPMC patient portal and assist patients with registration and utilization when appropriate.
  • Educate patients regarding financial responsibilities and connect them with financial advocacy resources as needed.
  • Verify insurance coverage and benefits through online verification systems and telephone inquiries.
  • Obtain required patient and family signatures for consent to treatment and financial responsibility in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Answer, screen, and appropriately route incoming telephone calls to providers, clinical staff, and other departments.
  • Perform administrative duties including scanning medical records, processing documentation, and faxing.
  • Maintain knowledge of the UPMC Patient Portal and confidently educate patients on portal navigation, access to health information, and available care services.
  • Support efficient daily office operations while delivering outstanding customer service and patient-centered care.

Requirements

  • Completion of high school graduate or equivalent is required.
  • Experience with personal computer-based applications, other various office equipment, and proficient typing skills are preferred.
  • Two years of experience in a medical / billing / fiscal or customer service function is preferred.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology is preferred.
  • Prior experience with Medipac, Epic, or other health records systems is preferred.
