Schedule
- Full-time, 40 hours per week
- Monday through Friday
- 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM
- No weekends or holidays required
- On-site position

Responsibilities
- Provide a warm, welcoming experience for all patients and visitors.
- Guide patients through self-arrival technology or assist with traditional check-in based on patient preference.
- Collect copayments and other applicable patient payments at the point of service.
- Confirm and update patient registration and demographic information during check-in and checkout.
- Schedule follow-up appointments within the practice and connect patients with resources to schedule ancillary services as needed.
- Help patients navigate the healthcare system by providing clear, understandable instructions and ensuring continuity of care through follow-up on unresolved questions or needs.
- Demonstrate service recovery principles by taking appropriate action to address concerns and ensure an exceptional UPMC patient experience.
- Register patients in the biometric (fingerprint recognition) program and educate them on its benefits.
- Promote the MyUPMC patient portal and assist patients with registration and utilization when appropriate.
- Educate patients regarding financial responsibilities and connect them with financial advocacy resources as needed.
- Verify insurance coverage and benefits through online verification systems and telephone inquiries.
- Obtain required patient and family signatures for consent to treatment and financial responsibility in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
- Answer, screen, and appropriately route incoming telephone calls to providers, clinical staff, and other departments.
- Perform administrative duties including scanning medical records, processing documentation, and faxing.
- Maintain knowledge of the UPMC Patient Portal and confidently educate patients on portal navigation, access to health information, and available care services.
- Support efficient daily office operations while delivering outstanding customer service and patient-centered care.
Requirements
- Completion of high school graduate or equivalent is required.
- Experience with personal computer-based applications, other various office equipment, and proficient typing skills are preferred.
- Two years of experience in a medical / billing / fiscal or customer service function is preferred.
- Knowledge of medical terminology is preferred.
- Prior experience with Medipac, Epic, or other health records systems is preferred.
