About the role
The Patient Services Representative facilitates communication between patients and doctors, clinical staff, and administrative staff, and acts as the liaison between patients, insurance companies, and the Central Billing department.
Responsibilities
- Verify insurance and obtain pre-authorizations
- Check patients in and out
- Schedule appointments and answer phones
- Perform triage and respond to patient inquiries
- Maintain patient charts
- Greet patients in a friendly, professional manner
- Respond to patient inquiries about billing, procedures, policies, and available services
- Prepare patient charts prior to appointments and complete upon arrival
- Process patients through check-out by verifying chart documentation and insurance information
- Accept and post payments, prepare and file clean claims, authorize insurance and billing, schedule referrals, and accurately enter data into EHR
- Perform end-of-day tasks, including balancing cash drawer, processing daily deposits, evaluating reports, and submitting essential reports
- Monitor patient flow and communicate delays
- Maintain a safe and clean office environment
- Perform other duties as determined by the office manager and doctor(s)
Physical demands and work environment
- Standing, walking, stooping, grasping, typing, and manual dexterity
- Visual and verbal acuity to ensure accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of work
- Ability to lift up to 15 pounds from floor to waist, 5 pounds from waist to shoulder, and 5 pounds from shoulder to overhead on a regular basis
- Professional medical office environment
